Adding plants to a well landscaped garden is the finishing touch that really brings it to life, with each plant working in harmony to create a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere that is continually evolving. When deciding what plant goes where, I take into account the importance of the key views from the house as well as the soil type, amount of shelter and the movement of the sun in the garden. This often drives the style of planting that suits.  Whatever your taste in plants (and everyone is different!), I will spend time with you to understand your plant likes and dislikes and the atmosphere you want to achieve – anything from a cool contemporary planting style through hot Mediterranean planting to a traditional cottage planting scheme.

Low maintenance planting schemes are a popular request that are easy to achieve with the right choice of plants.  If your favourite plant just won’t like the conditions in your garden, I can suggest alternatives that give you a similar look and feel but will be happy in that environment.   I can then work the whole mix into an effective planting plan that will thrive and suit your taste and lifestyle. 

Designing a planting scheme is an art that I liken to painting a 3D picture with imaginary ink! As I decide where to place each plant on the paper I envisage how the plants grow and change throughout the gardening year and how their colour, shape and form combine to create a planting style unique to you.

Established and mature plants create instant impact but are not cheap.  I can work within your allocated plant budget to recommend a mix of sizes to create impact but still allow room for growth.  I also advocate installing an irrigation system and spending time and money on improving the soil and adding a mulch to give the plants the best conditions to help them establish and thrive. Also, if budget allows, adding garden lighting is a wonderful way to enhance feature plants at night that can be enjoyed from inside and out.
